Supplies Abound

After traveling to Italy for ten days and then to NY for another eight days, I am back in the saddle again to blog about the work of our charity. It was great to get away for a bit but I am eager to write about our work, the upcoming trips, and the plight of schools that seem to be abandonded in light of the current diatribe called 'education reform.'

First things first - We collected gently used and new school supplies from 32 schools this spring. The payoff is remarkable. We collected 2,150 binders, 100 backpacks, 400 pencil holders, 1,100 packets of loose leaf paper, 3,632 notebooks (spirals), 1900 folders, 8,000 colored markers, 600 pairs of scissors, 6,000 colored pencils, over 1,200 erasers, over 13,000 crayons, 1,000 bottles of glue/glue sticks, 4,000 pencils, 4,000 pens as well as assorted supplies such as expo markers and so much more.

All of these supplies will go to the Chicago Public Schools in addition to many more supplies which we have purchased from Kits4Kidz. Today we will take delivery of 3500 binders, 3500 packets of loose leaf paper, 15000 folders, 6984 notebooks, 13440 pens and 18000 pencils!!!

Together, these two sources of supplies will serve thousands and thousands of CPS students as we deliver them on August 3rd and 4th. All of this is possible because many of you, literally hundreds and thousands of people, have donated your supplies, funds and time to this cause.

Many thanks,
Dick
