Supplies Galore!

These photos tell the story of why I haven't blogged in awhile! As you can see, we have been busy working with students and teachers as we have picked up supplies at 10, count them 10, Elmhurst schools. To say the least, we have plenty of eager volunteers of all ages!

This young lady took great pride in packing and labeling items with great care. She is just one of many Field Elementary School students who joined the cause of recycling all sorts of school supplies.

You name it and we got it; markers, binders, pencils, pens, book covers, calculators, filler paper, spirals, music instruments, colored pencils, colored markers, folders, file folders, scissors, rulers, paint kits, and more!!

Sharon and Gary Charneia joined Harry Bull (the photographer) and myself as we trekked through Elmhurst. A special thanks to Barb for making the Elmhurst 'Donation Day' a super huge success!

Big Haul on Day 2

Yesterday was quite a day in terms of collecting school supplies. We collected nearly 75 boxes of supplies from Ranchview Elementary (Naperville), Lockport Central and East High Schools. These were huge boxes of supplies, often with 30 binders or 50 notebooks (spirals) per box.

What do these numbers mean in terms of cost and savings to us? Take a box of 30 binders, typically a 1" one runs $2.39 and a 2" binder would likely go for $3.99. A box of 30 binders would easily cost $100.00 - $125.00 if our charity had to purchase it.

75 boxes easily translates into a few thousand dollars!!!

As is always the case, in terms of loading the truck, I got plenty of help at each school. These schools are great on many fronts...collecting the supplies, keeping them out of landfills, and finally sorting and boxing them.

Now that we have those supplies in the garage it is time to organize them and count them as the process begins in terms of getting ready to help New Orleans and Chicago Public Schools.

Thank you Lockport and Ranchview!!
